Blue Moon

I am one of those people who has a really hard time being nice to myself sometimes. It's not like I am mean to myself necessarily, I can just work really hard to take care of others and then kind of do a slack ass job when it comes to myself. That's why lately, I've felt a little run down and have made it my mission for the week to take excellent care of myself, like it's my passion. And it made me think, maybe this shouldn't last a week. Like maybe we should all take care of ourselves like it's our passion, and then in the end, we'll feel a lot better. It shouldn't be such a blue moon occurrence in so many of our lives (I know I'm not alone in my habit), and that's why I am requesting - no demanding - that today, you do something super fucking nice for yourself. Today I planned a trip to Hawaii for my boyfriend and myself, and am feeling pretty stoked about it.

What are you going to do for yourself today?

Be It Hell or High Water

If you're ever in Oregon and you don't go to Cannon Beach, you're living your life wrong.

Matt and I took a spur of the moment bus ride to Cannon Beach for the day, and it was so much fun! The water was cold, but the sand was hot, and there was a cool breeze which made everything perfect. Of course, what better item to wear than my Easy Breezy Slip

As a huge Goonies fan, Cannon Beach was also on my bucket list of places I wanted to see. I cannot explain how much this break from the city meant to me. I am not used to being surrounded by cement all the time, and it honestly takes a lot out of me. I'm not an urban dweller I guess. I think I realized (or rerealized) this trip how much I adore the sea. I guess I just equate salt water with home, and I can always find my way home. Be it hell or high water, I'll find my way to the ocean.

Howl

First off, I would just like to say I had a great time co-hosting the Free People event at Bridgeport Village last night! I think my favorite part was when I bought this dress. Maybe it's because of my new hair color, but I've really been feeling anything with a dark, moody, edgier vibe lately. Of course, whatever vibe I'm feeling is subject to change at any minute. I've also been really inspired by my all time favorite band, Nirvana. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame last night, and I've been thinking a lot about why they're my favorite band and how the music I love inspires the fashions I love, as well as how I would define my personal style (which can be defined as eclectic, at best.) Michael Stipe said it best in his speech last night, Nirvana was "a sweet and beautiful—but fed-up—fury, coupled with howling vulnerability."

That quote made me re-realize why Nirvana has always been my favorite band... And it also helped me realize how I define my style.

Uni-Que

I'm pretty much madly in love with Free People's Voile and Lace Trapeze Slip. I bought it first in the color I'm wearing, blue, this summer. Then in fall, I bought the deep red color. I'm kind of thinking I need another one for spring. Is that excessive? Even if it is, it doesn't really matter to me. I'm thinking of either getting it again in the Lilac or the Ballet colors, just so I have a softer one. The reason I can justify owning more than one of these gorgeous slips is because A. they're so versatile. I can think of so many different ways to style them, and they're great for layering. B. They're not a basic. Having something so fun, funky, and unique that is also super wearable is kind of an amazing thing in my opinion.

Do any of you have unique pieces you could seriously wear every day and be happy?

Good Bad Luck

Today was kind of a hard day. I didn't too as well as I had hoped on two quizzes and was completely confused on a project I had due today. Money troubles and spilling my can of soda which was my only source of caffeine for the afternoon didn't help much either! I almost didn't take pictures but a friend of mine and fellow blogger (Hello AGAIN Kacie! :) ) reminded me that I should because I enjoy it. It's funny, I don't know if anyone else does this, but when I get done I don't do the things that I love. Taking these pictures actually did make me feel a lot better and my evening class wasn't as bad as my afternoon class, my mom prized me with some shopping money and reminded me that without crappy days, we would never be happy. It's funny how a day can start one way and end another.

In between classes I'm usually in a time crunch because I have to walk to and from one of them. I had this outfit styled up a little bit more in a fall way before I was ready to take photos, but rushing back was tiring not to mention the weather wasn't exactly chilly! Needless to say, I had to ditch the jacket. Luckily for me though, I managed to pick out a great piece in my grumpy state. This slip works well styled or on it's own!
