I am so excited to finally have a bit of Brandy Melville in my life. I have spent many hours trolling the Brandy website, filling my cart with practically one of everything. I love the laid back, 90s-esque aesthetic that their store and clothing has. This embroidered top was one of my must have items that I couldn't delete out of the cart when time came to finalize my purchases, and I don't regret that decision at all. I can think of so many different ways to wear it, and with fall coming up, it's going to be the perfect bad ass piece for layering plaids and cardigans. I bought a few other items, which I'm sure you'll be seeing soon, but one of my favorite pieces is the "fuck you" necklace. It's kind of perfect.

The Comeback Kid

I'm baaa-aaack!

It's been a long summer. With two trips back home to Alaska (one being a planned two weeks, and the other being a totally spontaneous four weeks due to family stuff), a new apartment, a ten day visit from my best friend, all on top of online classes and various other things... You could say I've been pretty busy. Unfortunately, that meant being too busy to take blog photos, let alone put myself together on most days. (I seriously have a Birkenstock tan line. Seriously.) Those busy summer days are behind me now though, with the only lingering evidence of summer being the ungodly heat here in Portland. Long story short, I'm happy to be "back"; and what better way to make a comeback than in denim overalls and Doc Marten boots?

Pushing Up Daisies

 From the time I was born, my closet has always been adorned with 90s fashions. You can imagine how excited I am now that the 90s are so heavily coming back into fashion. Finally, the look is attainable at every store I walk into. (The only problem is this is happening at a time when I have absolutely no money to spend on clothes. Oh well.) I bought this dress (for an extremely reasonable price) at H&M two days ago. As soon as I saw it I was like, "I need this. I need to wear this with a plaid shirt and Doc Martens." I love it when you see something, and immediately get a 'vision' for the item. Luckily, I have a couple different visions for this dress. As well as the other one just like I bought, in another print. No wonder I'm broke.

Howl

First off, I would just like to say I had a great time co-hosting the Free People event at Bridgeport Village last night! I think my favorite part was when I bought this dress. Maybe it's because of my new hair color, but I've really been feeling anything with a dark, moody, edgier vibe lately. Of course, whatever vibe I'm feeling is subject to change at any minute. I've also been really inspired by my all time favorite band, Nirvana. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame last night, and I've been thinking a lot about why they're my favorite band and how the music I love inspires the fashions I love, as well as how I would define my personal style (which can be defined as eclectic, at best.) Michael Stipe said it best in his speech last night, Nirvana was "a sweet and beautiful—but fed-up—fury, coupled with howling vulnerability." 

That quote made me re-realize why Nirvana has always been my favorite band... And it also helped me realize how I define my style.

Ahead of the Curve

 Sorry about the lack of photos in this post, guys. It has been raining all day long here in Portland, and a lot of the photos came out blurry as a result. I woke up today and felt like wearing some items that I rarely ever wore. This white button up is something I own for the simple fact I think everybody should own one; however, I never really wear it. I decided to dress it down with leggings (also something I never wear). The look took a turn towards edgy once I slipped on this leather bomber, beanie, and Doc Martens. I forgot how much I loved this jacket. It has a fun baseball feel to me that I really like. It's so much fun when fashion takes you some place you weren't planning on headed.

Cherry Bomb

 On my way to take a walk with Matt and take blog pictures, my camera died! I'm so glad it did. I was originally wearing a totally different outfit that I wasn't that excited about, but it did the trick. So what we ended up doing was going to check out a thrift store while my camera charged, and I found this beautiful vintage dress for only $20! I am so excited about it. I've owned it for a total of two hours, and I can already tell you it's my new favorite dress. I have been craving something cherry red, and this cute floral midi did just the trick! I've also been dying for the perfect button front dress for seriously YEARS. I feel so 90s and so confident in this dress, especially after I paired it with my Doc Marten boots. I absolutely love it when I'm able to find the perfect item thrifting, and for a great price!
