Shock and Awe

 These jeans served as a lesson to me that you might think you know what you want, until you try something else. I have always been a skinny jean, high rise kind of girl. But these low-rise kickesque jeans by BDG have stolen my heart. I know, I know. That's a little dramatic. But having a 34" inseam has caused jean shopping to be a pretty dramatic affair, as if it isn't dramatic enough for the average leg length, so these jeans were not only surprising but really exciting! I love the fit, and they're super comfortable. I'm guilty of slipping into something more comfortable as soon as I know I'm not going to have to leave my apartment for the rest of the day, but I found I didn't want to take these off! Who knew?

Here it Is

Fall is upon us here in Portland and I could not be more thrilled! I feel like the outfits that best reflect my personality are more fall appropriate than any other season. When I took these photos, I wasn't really planning on doing a blog post, and though it's not exactly the most ground breaking or unique outfit online or in the universe (or are those the same thing?) it was still very "me", and I felt like that might be worth sharing. And maybe it's not. But either way, here it is! 

Plaids, tees, boots, and beanies are all simple pieces, but together, they make an outfit that I feel really confident and myself in. What types of pieces make you feel most you?

Like a Boy

 The weather in Portland is out of control. It's sunny one minute, raining the next, and that makes it extremely hard to get dressed in the morning. Luckily for me, I haven't had much of a reason to leave the house this past week. (Aren't those the best weeks?) Today just felt like a suspenders and plaid shirt kind of day for me. Despite the lack of out-of-the-house time, I've had a lot of exciting things happening lately that I hope to share with you soon. <3

Season of the Witch

 It's my cat's birthday! That has nothing to do with this outfit, but I just wanted to share that with everyone.

I just thought today was an all black day today. I've been wanting this top for a while now, and I finally bought it this week! I also found this choker that I think everyone who around in the early 2000s will recognize. These tattoo necklaces were so cool when I was like, 12 years old and I've noticed them making a comeback in a few magazines and blogs. Needless to say, I was very excited when I came across this one in the mall yesterday.

I'm sorry if this blog post is a little scatter brained, but I'm a little scatter brained myself today. I'm feeling sicker today than I was yesterday, which really sucks because I thought I was getting better! Today was still a good day though. When I came out in my outfit today, Matt told me "You look like a witch", which obviously, to me, was a compliment!

Another side note, I just got a Hulu Plus account and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me?

These Days

 Sorry about the huge lack of photos in this post. On Wednesdays, I have two classes with only two hours in between and I have to walk home from the first one so I don't have a whole lot of time to eat, finish any homework, and take blog photos but I do try. These days, I've been so busy lately and all I want to do is hibernate, read, and listen to music. (Specifically The Velvet Underground. RIP Lou Reed, you will forever be one of my favorites this time of year.) I usually get into this mood when it starts to get colder and darker outside. I know it might sound strange, but I kind of enjoy the lethargic mood, but it does get old.

Burning Red

 

Hey guys!

If any of you watched my Nordstrom anniversary sale haul video two posts ago, then you already know how much I love this shirt. As I said in the video, it's so simple and basic, but I just love it for some reason. I love the color, and I definitely needed more red in my wardrobe. I said once on my blog that wearing red was something I felt was hard to do without looking too Christmas-y, but this shirt definitely doesn't look Christmas-y to me! It's a 1/4 sleeve top, but still super light weight, so it was fine in the hot weather today! I paired it with the Audrey Hepburn choker I found on the ground one night, red lipstick, and my black converse. Over all, I felt the look kind of had a Brittany Murphy from Clueless vibe, you know when she first gets to the new school and she's kind of the rebellious kid compared to her soon to be preppy friends? I'm not going to go into my love of 1990s fashion again, I think we've had that talk a few times. :)

Hey guys!

I really liked my outfit today. I tend to really like my outfit anytime I wear a Nirvana T-shirt though, because they've been my favorite band since I was a toddler. Granted, I didn't know what their name was or any of their song titles at three years old, but I definitely knew all the words! I owe my older brother Max a big thank you for always making sure that nothing but good music was played while I was growing up.

I feel most myself in outfits like these. Darker colors, high rise ripped up denim, booties that look like something Bob Dylan might have worn in his gone-electric days, plaid grunger shirt, and of course, the Nirvana t-shirt. I think everyone has those brands, styles, or icons that when they wear them or take influence from them, it just gives you a good dose of confidence. There's something really special I think, about the fact that someone, like me and my Nirvana t-shirts for example, can feel so much better in a casual outfit like this than in a really fancy dress, or with a really expensive necklace or purse. I don't know, I just think there's something to be said about the sentimentality of certain things that when brought into fashion really bring out the self expression in an outfit.
