Back to Basics

Hey guys! I'm in a bit of a hurry right now, so I'll make this short and sweet. I dyed my hair back to my natural dark brown color! I was a little sad to see the pink go, but my modeling agency said I would have a lot harder time booking jobs with pastel pink hair. (It's an acquired taste, I guess.) Anyways, I'm glad to be back to brunette. I feel most myself like this, and I think my outfit reflects my 'back to basics' mentality.

Bright

So much sunshine! Finally! I feel like every blog post I've been writing the past few weeks is some variation of "today sucked, no sunshine, maybe later." It's finally later, and it's gorgeous out! It's still not super warm, but it's a start! I guess you could say the sunshine had inspired my outfit because I normally don't dress this bright. When I woke up though, I just knew it wasn't a black on black kind of day and that I needed a little color! That also made me realize how little of it I have in my wardrobe, which is something I am hoping to change for this summer.

What things are you looking to add to your wardrobe for summer?

Gloom

Today is just one of those days. To be honest, I kind of love gloomy days. With sunshine comes the obligation to get up and do something. Don't get me wrong, sometimes that's nice and it's most definitely necessary. Other times though, it's nice to know that the weather is on your side of being blah. I'm big on balance, and I believe without the blah days we wouldn't truly appreciate the sunshiny ones. So here's to a good blah day! I hope you all enjoy the mood of your city no matter what the weather.

You? You.

Hello there! I was pretty excited about my outfit today. My friend and I decided it would be a good time for her to hop on a train and come visit me, which of course translated to it was a good time to go shopping. And that's what I did! I've wanted a romper for such a long time, but I can never find one that fits nicely on me. My legs are so long that the style can look really awkward on me. But this awesome romper from Urban Outfitters, with it's circa 1992 look, was the perfect size and shape! I thought it would be a perfect time to wear my new hat and ruffle socks as well. I had a lot of fun these last few days with my best friend shopping, eating pizza, and going to a Titus Andronicus and Super Chunk concert at the Crystal Ballroom! Every time I start to think I'm sick of Portland, someone visits me and forces me to get outside my Portland routine. I especially love going outside my routine fashion wise, and I think I accomplished that in my friend and I's recent shopping trip - It's always good to go shopping with someone who is honest about what you should and should not try, and this outfit is totally me but at the same time something I wouldn't normally wear!

Do you ever wear anything that's not really "you" but still very you?

Business Casual

Well you'd have to work in the coolest office ever in order for this to legitimately be considered "business casual". It was overcast and a little rainy here in Portland (Gee, that's weird) and I thought it would be a good time to bust out an old favorite of mine from those chilly summer days spent in Alaska - Tights with shorts! I think this look, like many other looks, works best with high waist shorts. I never by low rise anything because high waist just makes everything look so much better, and you have a lot more flexibility in how you style your outfit. One of my favorite things about fashion and style is when you have a well balanced outfit. For example, a pretty dress with tough studded boots. Another great way to get the balanced look is to mix some polished pieces, such as my oxfords and black blazer, with some funkier pieces like my tee and ripped shorts.
What are your favorite fashion opposites that you think work really well together?

Matt is getting much better at taking pictures, and is even taking some direction in telling me how to pose! (Even though I don't use many of his goofy ideas.) I thought I'd humor him today though, and post the open jacket photo. The one of my making the "wtf?" face was taken right after he said something ridiculous. Candid shots. Very candid shots. Kodak moments.
