Hey everyone!
It's my freebie post Sunday! I've seen a lot of YouTube channels do something similar to this, and so I thought I'd bring the idea to you all on my blog instead of in video form. The reason I wasn't posting for a while (and I apologize if I've said this already in one of my recent posts) is because I went back to Alaska. It's about a four hour flight from Portland to Anchorage, AK (And another hour and a half to my home town from there, but this time I only went to Anchorage to meet up with my parents.) Anyways, whenever I go on a plane I'm always a little excited. I absolutely hate flying, and I get really motion sick so I have take medicine for that, but after that kicks in I think the couple hours with just me and my headphones and a good book turns out to be really enjoyable! My favorite part, and probably the part I spend the most thought on the night before is what I'm going to wear on the plane. I need it to be comfortable enough to sit in for that amount of time without looking sloppy or like I showed up in my pajamas. I guess I take it as kind of a challenge - How cute can I look while giving the least amount of effort possible?
So without further ado, here is a great go to airplane outfit, carry on must haves, and what make up I bring on board! I prefer to do my make up on the plane because the air on planes can be really dry because it's recycled, and sitting with make up on for four and a half hour in those conditions is a no no for skin!
Airplane Outfit Idea - Comfy & Cute!
I love these leggings from BP at Nordstrom because they're just as comfortable as a regular looking but look a lot nicer because of the high quality material. I prefer to wear something like a loose fitted top and my army coat (I have that H&M jacket above!) rather than a sweatshirt which can be a pain when you're sitting in close quarters with strangers. My Steve Madden Troopa boots are my go-to shoes on planes because they're comfortable, and they look like I cared enough to not show up in slippers. They're also really easy to get off and on in security because of the sipper on the inside!
Carry On Must-Haves!
This is probably the most frustrating part for me when it comes to airport preparation. I just don't like carrying a lot with me on planes at all. It is sometimes unavoidable though, especially if you have a long plane ride and want to stay entertained. I always bring Trident original flavor gum, my phone and wallet of course, chapstick so my lips don't get dehydrated and my iPad. I bring my laptop along just because I don't want to pack it in my suitcase where it can be damaged. My iPod is a life savor for me on an airplane. I literally have my headphones on from the start of the plane ride to the end, and it really helps to calm me down because I do tend to get freaked out on the plane. Picking up some snacks and magazines to throw in your spacious tote bag at the airport is always a good plan too! I didn't put them in the image, but two other things I always bring are some moisturizing facial wipes and lotion.
Make-Up On Board!
Last but not least, we have the make-up. I had never done my makeup on the plane until this last trip back to Alaska, and I can honestly say it's something I'll be doing every flight from now on! The biggest thing is to make sure you don't go over 3.5 fl. oz. of liquid make up (surprisingly easier than I thought) and to make sure you put it all in a quart size zip lock bag. I brought my moisturizing Laura Mercier foundation and her corresponding matte powder on board with me. I had bought a Makeup Forever brand 'matte velvet' foundation on my trip that I brought on the plane ride back to Oregon with me that I actually liked a bit better than the Laura Mercier foundation. It gave me a lot more coverage so I don't need concealer! I still put the Matte powder on over it because I just prefer Matte to the dew-y look. Wet n' Wild, though it is a drug store brand, actually has really great pigmented shadows. They aren't something I'd wear on a daily basis or anything, but I thought the size and quality was acceptable in this situation. Add a little blush, some mascara, and a hint of lip color and you'll be looking fresh and perfect right off the plane - Impressive.
